Feed-in Tariff
Ontario Power Authority (OPA) Feed-in Tariff Program.
The Green Energy Act, 2009 (GEA) was introduced to the Ontario Legislature on February 23, 2009, on May 14th the GEA was passed. It includes a proposal for a new renewable energy program known as a Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Program designed to further encourage the development of renewable energy supply. Objectives of the FIT Program:- Increase capacity of renewable energy supply to ensure adequate generation and reduce emissions.
- Simpler method to procure and develop generation.
- Create new green industries through new investment and job creation.
- Provide incentives for investment in renewable energy technologies.
The program will be open to various renewable energy supply technologies (i.e., wind, hydro, solar and bioenergy technologies). It will provide opportunities for promoting First Nations, Métis and community-based projects.
